When I was a kid I went to a party with my parents....my father's boss( Mr. Kansal) came from mumbai to attend that party...He rarely used to attend the parties..But there was a special reason to attend this one...My uncle's son was returning back from london...He did his MBA from IIM Lucknow...His flight was delayed and surprisingly Mr. Kansal waited for an hour or so to meet him... He just wanted to introduce his son to him...It was way back in 1999...
I was not aware what IIMs are but was really amazed to see that Mr Kansal waited for an hour for someone who did his MBA from IIM Lucknow...Then I started dreaming to be there 1 day:)
Today the reason for lakhs of people opting to do MBA has changed...
They are more inclined towards the high packages that IIM graduates are offered...Its really more like a rat race...
But what I think MBA is more about respect that you get after doing MBA from IIM...Like one of my friends said "IIM Degree is more prestigious than Armani's suit"...
People who are not able to make it into IIMs teach people how to get into IIMs...Pagalguy.com and all the other sites launched are mostly by the people who were not able to realize their dreams...
When you hear people saying " Hey she has done her MBA from IIM WOW"....It feels proud to be a Global HR Head rather than being just a software engineer even if you are earning enough...Thats it all about...
Today when I logged into my gtalk I saw the caption of one of my friends as "Boredom is the inherent characteristic/nature of a job. And, a job is a job, as long as it is a job. Be it prior to MBA job or post MBA job. So, Why MBA ?"
Boredom can be te nature of anything if we keep on doing it for a longer duration...We are all humans we get bored easily be it MBA or anything else...Very few people donot get bored with whatever they are doing...
So strive hard to get into IIMs...Today only the person who has an IIM tag is considered intelligent...Ofcourse for the people who have interest in MBA:)

Its really true if u r only a s/w engineer earning well peolple dont give u that respect wat an IIM person gets. But getting into IIM is only hardwork & a bit of ur luck..So try hard with both to get into one.
Well, I dont want to discourage you, but the point it, its not the IIM tag that is honored and considered in awe, its the person who cracks it. There is a subtle difference. The IIM degree acts as a benchmark, and is not the only one parameter to test someone's caliber.
Aspiring for IIMs is really becoming a rat race, and people think it as a status symbol. It is actually not. It is just a brand you acquire that helps you see the door. It is you who has to walk inside and prove yourself after that. Your friend is right, a job is a job afterall.
BTW, a global HR head is one of the last things IIM grads want to be these days.
Hi Bhaiya:)
Yes true IIM degree is not the only parameter to judge someone's caliber but the sad part is person with degree and brand always have an edge in the longer run.And its the brand that sells in any case.
Even if its a status symbol nothing wrong with that. Its not easy to achieve that. 1000 odd students get it out of 3 lakhs.
Yes true a job is a job. Even the maid at my home is doing her job. If job is a job then Y engineering Y any of the degrees and courses. What matters is your own personal interest:)
